Did you know that Aix-en-Provence has earned the nicknames city of 1000 fountains and ville d’eau (city of water)? While I’ve never actually counted them all, it does seem that there is one around every corner to pause and admire. From the grand Fontaine de la Rotonde in the center of town, to the tiny one pictured above humorously entitled La Fontaine d’Argent (the fountain of money) due to the expense to build it, they come in all shapes and sizes and add to the texture and vibrancy of the city.
